At the age of 29, a man named Fred Bear embarked on his first hunt, igniting a passion for bowhunting that would later define his legacy. In 1933, this passion led him to start his own company where he created revolutionary products - his most famous being the first fiberglass take-down bow - that pioneered the way for modern bowhunting. Today, some refer to him as "the Father of Modern Bowhunting," but to us at Bear Archery, he'll always be Papa Bear.

As a renowned bowhunter and avid outdoorsman, Fred believed the finest trophies are not always in the harvests but in the memories of fellowship surrounded by the great outdoors. He devoted his life to sharing his love for bowhunting and creating utterly reliable, intensely lethal archery equipment capable of delivering the ultimate archery experience for people of all ages.

Fred Bear started Bear Archery back in 1933 with the goal of making archery accessible to everyone. He was a man devoted to the outdoors that had a respect for nature and all things wild. He believed the bow and arrow were the history of mankind and that by immersing yourself in the outdoors made you a better human being.

In August of 1959 Alaska’s Little Delta river, boiling with glacial runoff, stopped Fred Bear and his group in their tracks. The men rigged spruce beams, support poles, wood rungs and wire into a suspended catwalk anchored to live spruce leaning over the water.
